About

Margaret Walker, CD (DONA)

I am a caretaker and nurturer who invests deeply in creating a more just, compassionate world. My experience in healthcare began at The Family Van, a mobile clinic that improves access to preventative screenings and resources with relationship-centered approach. I know firsthand the immense and transformative impact that non-judgemental, peer-based accompaniment can have on individuals, families, and communities.

For as long as I can remember, I have felt drawn to pregnancy and childbirth, and becoming a doula felt like a natural progression on my journey within the health field. My dream of practicing as a birth worker came to fruition after I completed my training and certification through DONA International. I have accompanied families throughout the Greater Boston area, providing services in both English and Spanish.

My educational background is in Anthropology, and I am profoundly inspired by the long history of humans supporting each other through pregnancy and birth. My practice is rooted in the belief that, when given proper space and encouragement, we can access the immense wisdom that our bodies hold. I am a lifelong learner, raised by two teachers, and I approach the world with boundless curiosity. In my free time you can find me taking walks in the urban woods and expressing myself creatively through baking, writing, & dance.

My Approach

Accompaniment

Birth is full of intensity, in an emotional and physical sense, but also as a potent transition and milestone. You deserve a compassionate, gentle, and loving presence as you welcome new life into the world. I believe birth is a sacred experience that should be treated with dignity and reverence.

Access

Everyone deserves an nurturing and fully supported birth experience. I offer sliding scale pricing and as your doula, I am willing to work with you to find a payment option that is accessible. As part of my commitment to reproductive justice, I also donate a portion of proceeds to The Resilient Sisterhood Project, a local nonprofit that seeks to empower Black women and improve community health through education and advocacy.

Autonomy

In a medical system that often seeks to control and coerce birthing people, I believe my role includes empowering you to make informed decisions about how you and your baby are treated. While I attend births as a gentle companion, I also show up as a firm advocate in your corner. I am committed to facilitating a birth experience where you feel safe, grounded, and heard.

Accountability

I continually develop and hone my skills as a doula to ensure that the care I provide is holistic, competent, and deeply informed. I stay up-to-date on relevant literature, and take supplemental workshops ranging from trauma-informed care, lactation, massage, and more. Through consistent action and reflection, I show up as a well-rounded and firmly committed birth-worker.
